Merty Merty Station Campground — Mid-Strzelecki Track
Merty Merty Station sits roughly at the midpoint of the Strzelecki Track and the campground here is well known to anyone who’s done the track more than once. It’s a private station camp — basic facilities, flat dirt ground, and that immense outback silence that only the gibber plains can deliver. The sheer scale of the Sturt Stony Desert surrounds you. Fuel is not reliably available here so carry plenty — treat this strictly as a sleep stop and water top-up, not a resupply. It’s popular with convoys doing multi-day track runs.
Road conditions to reach the camp are the same as the Strzelecki Track itself — corrugated dirt and occasional sand. A high-clearance vehicle with good ground clearance is minimum; 4WD recommended after rain. Track conditions vary significantly by season and after flood events — check with locals at Lyndhurst before heading out. A satellite communicator is strongly advised for the full track.
