Lough Dan — Wicklow Mountains Lakeshore Wild Camp
Lough Dan is a long, narrow glacial lake sitting in a valley between Luggala and Scarr Mountain, fed by the Cloghoge River. There are no facilities whatsoever out here — just the water, the heather, and the silence. The lakeshore offers flat ground for a few tents or a rooftop setup, and the views north toward the Luggala Estate cliffs are the kind that make you forget what day it is. Access is on foot from a small parking area near Roundwood or via the Wicklow Way from the south — this is not a drive-to-the-water site. Fires are strongly discouraged across the Wicklow uplands due to peat fire risk.
The parking pull-in off the L5014 near Oldbridge handles a handful of vehicles max. The walk in is roughly 2–3km on rough track. Summer weekends get busy with hikers — midweek or shoulder season puts you close to having the lake to yourself. No signage at the camp area; navigation confidence required.
Glacial silence deep in the Wicklow hills.
