Serra dos Orgaos National Park Circuit

The Serra dos Orgaos circuit winds through some of Brazil’s most dramatic granite formations, where towering spires rise like cathedral organs from dense Atlantic rainforest. This technical mountain route connects the historic town of Teresópolis to Petrópolis via rugged park roads, tackling steep grades and rocky sections while passing the iconic Dedo de Deus (God’s Finger) peak. The route includes several challenging climbs through Vale do Bonfim and crosses multiple streams where flash floods can turn moderate obstacles into serious hazards.

This is expert-level terrain requiring a well-equipped 4WD with low-range gearing, skid plates, and recovery gear. Rock sliders are essential for the granite ledges and off-camber sections. Best tackled during dry season (May-September) when stream crossings are manageable, though even then expect muddy conditions in forest sections. The reward is access to some of Brazil’s most pristine mountain wilderness, with opportunities for multi-day camping and world-class hiking to peaks like Pedra do Sino.
