Twisp River Road — Twisp River Campground
Twisp River Campground sits along the Twisp River on Forest Road 44 in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, about 11 miles west of Twisp. Six sites set among ponderosa pine and cottonwood with direct river access — bring your own water or treat from the river. It’s a low-key spot that doesn’t fill up the way the Methow Valley resorts do, so you can usually roll in without a reservation outside of peak summer weekends. Fire rings, vault toilet, no hookups.
FR 44 is well-maintained gravel — most rigs handle it fine. The road continues deeper into the Twisp River watershed toward the Chelan Mountains and connects to trails accessing the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. Season is typically May through October depending on snowpack. Cell signal is essentially gone once you’re a few miles up the drainage.
