Mount Pilchuck — Verlot River Water Source
Right around the Verlot Public Service Center on the Mountain Loop Highway, the South Fork Stillaguamish runs cold, clean, and accessible year-round. This isn’t a designated water station — it’s a river. Bring your filter. The water is snowmelt-fed most of the year and runs fast enough that it’s consistently clear except during peak spring runoff in May when it runs brown with silt. Pull off on the river-side pullouts east or west of Verlot and you’re at the bank in under a minute.
If you’re staging for the Mount Pilchuck Mining Road or heading up FR 41 into the Whitechuck or North Fork Sauk drainage, this is the last easy water access before things get remote. The USFS service center itself is seasonal — don’t count on a tap there. This river source is your practical option. Treat everything; this is a popular recreation corridor with horses, dogs, and heavy upstream traffic.
Cold Stillaguamish water before the climb.
