This modest village sits at the crucial midpoint of the Death Road descent, offering the last reliable fuel and supplies before continuing toward Coroico. A few small tiendas sell basic goods, canned food, and warm beer, while the single Petrobras station provides fuel when it’s functioning. The village plaza offers decent cell coverage and a chance to stretch legs before tackling the lower, more technical sections of the route.
The fuel station can be unreliable — carry extra jerry cans from La Paz. Village dogs are friendly but numerous. ATM occasionally works but don’t count on it. Road through town is rough cobblestone that’s slick when wet.
