Tombstone Mountain — Dempster Highway Alpine Viewpoint
Tombstone Mountain and its surrounding massif dominate the skyline at roughly Kilometre 72 of the Dempster Highway, just inside Tombstone Territorial Park. The peaks are raw Tombstone Range granite, dark and serrated, rising abruptly from open subalpine tundra. Pull-outs along the highway here are some of the most-photographed viewpoints in the entire territory — bring a wide lens. The park visitor centre nearby has interpretive displays, flush toilets, and staff who know current conditions on every route in the area.
Access is year-round on the Dempster but shoulder seasons bring soft shoulders and mud — know your rig. This is bear and wolf country; act accordingly. Cell signal is essentially zero through this entire corridor. Permit required to camp in the backcountry; roadside pull-outs are day-use viewpoints only.
