Salmon River Bridge — Highway 16 Viewpoint and Pullout

Point of Interest

Heading east toward Smithers on Highway 16, the Salmon River valley opens up into one of the more honest stretches of Interior BC scenery — wide gravel bars, cottonwood flats, and the Bulkley Range sitting hard on the horizon. The pullout at the bridge gives rigs room to stop, stretch, and get eyes on the terrain before heading south into the Babine Mountains backcountry. It’s not a campsite — it’s a breath-of-air stop, a map-check moment, and a first look at the watershed you’re about to run.

Smithers is roughly 20 kilometres west. Fuel, groceries, and parts are all there. This pullout is the last easy orienting stop before you commit to the Cronin Creek FSR or Babine Mountains approaches heading north. Pavement right to the bridge — no clearance requirement for the pullout itself.

Babine Range fills the windshield here.
