Pine Valley Road to Azouzetta Lake

Gravel road to northern plateau fishing lakes

Easy

Pine Valley Road stretches 45 kilometers northwest from Vanderhoof through the rolling hills of the Nechako Plateau, connecting a chain of pristine fishing lakes that see more moose than humans. The well-maintained gravel surface passes through mixed forests of spruce, pine, and aspen, with side spurs leading to Cluculz Lake, Tezzeron Lake, and the final destination at Azouzetta Lake. Wildlife is abundant — black bears, caribou, and massive bull moose frequent the roadside, especially at dawn and dusk.

Easy difficulty makes this accessible to any vehicle with decent ground clearance, though mud can be an issue during spring breakup. Open May through October with best conditions June through September. Cell service is nonexistent, but the road is well-traveled enough that help isn’t far away. Multiple established camping spots offer fire rings and basic facilities. What you get is classic northern BC wilderness fishing, berry picking in season, and the kind of peaceful camping that reminds you why you bought that truck in the first place.
