This sprawling BLM area off Box Canyon Road offers hundreds of dispersed camping spots scattered across desert washes and low hills. Sites range from roadside pull-offs to more secluded spots requiring high-clearance vehicles. Popular with rockhounds hunting for agates and jasper, plus winter RV caravans escaping cold climates. No facilities whatsoever—pack everything in, pack everything out.
Access is via Box Canyon Road south of Mecca, with numerous sandy tracks branching off the main route. Roads can be soft sand requiring 4WD or momentum in 2WD. Cell service is spotty to nonexistent. Summer heat makes this place uninhabitable, but October through March sees steady use from desert rats and gem hunters.
