Little Missouri National Grassland White Butte Dispersed Area
Scattered camping spots in rolling prairie at the base of White Butte, North Dakota’s 3,506-foot high point. Sites offer 360-degree views across endless grassland with minimal light pollution for stellar night sky viewing. Most spots are pull-offs along ranch roads with space for larger rigs. Wildlife includes pronghorn, sharp-tailed grouse, and migrating waterfowl.
Access via gravel county roads from Highway 12 near Amidon. Roads can become impassable mud after heavy rain — check conditions locally. Best camping April through October, though winter access possible during dry spells. No trees mean no shade or wind protection.
