Kaibab National Forest Sowats Canyon Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

Half a dozen scattered sites along the rim of Sowats Canyon offer commanding views across red rock country toward the Grand Canyon North Rim. Sites are primitive dirt clearings among pinyon and juniper, each big enough for a couple rigs with room to spread out. No amenities whatsoever — pack it all in, pack it all out. Fire restrictions May through September typically.

Access via Forest Road 425 from Jacob Lake, then 8 miles of increasingly rough two-track. High-clearance recommended for the final approach, though careful drivers in stock trucks manage it. Road gets slick when wet. Best spring through fall — winter snow makes access dicey.
