Grand River National Grassland Prairie Dog Town Dispersed Area
Rolling prairie with a dozen pull-offs scattered along dirt ranch roads where you can pitch among the shortgrass and sage. Prairie dogs chatter from their towns during the day, and the night sky stretches horizon to horizon with zero light pollution. Sites are just level spots marked by old fire rings and the occasional picnic table someone hauled in. Bring shade and wind protection — this is raw Great Plains country.
Access from Highway 20 via several unmarked two-tracks. Roads can turn to gumbo when wet, so avoid during rain or spring thaw. Water is 15 miles away in Lemmon, and the wind never stops.
