Custer National Forest Beartooth Highway Mile 43 Dispersed Sites
Scattered pullouts along the Beartooth Highway at treeline elevation offer some of the most scenic dispersed camping in Montana. Sites accommodate 6-8 rigs with stunning views across alpine plateaus and distant peaks. Nights drop into the 30s even in summer, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fire restrictions typically in effect June through September.
Access via US Highway 212 from Red Lodge. Road fully paved but steep grades and hairpin turns not suitable for large RVs. Sites fill early during peak season (July-August). Snow closes the highway October through May, making this a true summer-only destination.
