Monongahela National Forest Gaudineer Scenic Area Dispersed Sites
Scattered primitive sites tucked into the edges of one of the few remaining old-growth red spruce forests in the Mid-Atlantic. These dispersed spots sit at 3,800+ feet elevation along forest service roads accessing the Gaudineer Scenic Area, offering cool mountain air even in summer. Most sites accommodate 2-3 rigs max, with natural clearings providing decent leveling. Fire restrictions often in effect during dry periods.
Access via winding gravel Forest Road 27 off Route 219. Road conditions vary seasonally but typically passable with high-clearance 2WD. Sites fill quickly during fall foliage season (late September-early October). No facilities — pack out everything. Best from May through October; winter access can be sketchy with snow and ice.
