Medicine Bow National Forest Snowy Range Dispersed Sites
Scattered pullouts and flat spots along Forest Road 130 (Snowy Range Road) offer dispersed camping beneath towering granite peaks and alpine cirques. Sites range from roadside turnouts to short spur roads leading to more secluded spots near treeline, with dramatic views of Medicine Bow Peak and the Snowy Range massif. Most sites accommodate 2-4 vehicles with fire rings already established by previous campers, though wood is scarce above 9,500 feet.
The road is paved but narrow with steep grades and tight switchbacks unsuitable for large RVs. Snow closes the pass typically October through May, making this a short-season destination. Sites fill quickly during peak summer weekends due to proximity to Mirror Lake and other alpine fishing destinations. No services or water sources along this stretch — pack everything in.
