BLM Saline Valley Upper Warm Springs Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

Upper Warm Springs sits in a desert valley pocket where natural hot springs create palm-lined pools and established camping spots spread across alkali flats. Unlike the lower springs, this area sees fewer visitors and offers more solitude among the mesquite and tamarisk. Expect 8-12 established sites with fire rings, most accommodating rigs up to 30 feet. Water is available from the springs but requires treatment.

Access requires 4WD via Steel Pass or South Pass — both are rocky, technical routes not suitable for stock vehicles. The 28-mile approach from Big Pine is an all-day commitment. Springs run year-round, but summer temperatures exceed 110°F regularly. Winter and spring offer the best conditions.
