BLM Jacumba Mountains Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

The Jacumba Mountains offer scattered dispersed sites among granite boulder piles and desert washes about 10 miles north of the border town of Jacumba. Sites are primitive with no facilities but provide good shelter from wind among the rock formations. The area sees light use compared to other desert camping areas, making it a solid option for solitude seekers.

Access via Highway S2 north from Ocotillo, then west on McCain Valley Road. Multiple rough dirt tracks branch off toward camping areas — high-clearance recommended for the better sites. Border Patrol operates in the area but generally leaves campers alone. Watch for illegal border crossing activity and report suspicious behavior.
