Brandywine Creek Natural Spring at Chadds Ford
Small but reliable spring bubbling up from limestone bedrock about 50 yards from the Brandywine Creek. The water runs clear and cold year-round, pooling in a natural basin before spilling into the creek. Local history says Continental Army soldiers filled their canteens here in 1777. Shaded by mature sycamores and accessible via a short footpath from the battlefield parking area.
Follow the blue blazed trail from the visitor center parking lot for about 200 yards downstream. The spring is unmarked but easy to spot — look for the small stone circle built by the CCC in the 1930s. Bring a water filter as a precaution, though locals have been drinking from this spring for generations. Flow slows slightly in late summer but never stops.
Revolutionary War spring still flowing strong
