Mirador Cerro Domuyo Crater Rim
This windswept overlook provides stunning views into the crater complex of Volcán Domuyo, Argentina’s highest peak outside the main Andes at 4,709 meters. The viewpoint sits at roughly 3,800 meters elevation and offers expansive views of steaming fumaroles, colorful mineral deposits, and the jagged volcanic landscape. On clear days, you can see the Andes range stretching south toward Bariloche. The geothermal activity is visible year-round as steam vents and hot springs dot the crater area.
Reach the viewpoint via Provincial Route 83 then a rough 4WD track for the final 15 kilometers. The road is rocky and steep in places — high-clearance 4WD recommended. Weather changes quickly at this altitude, so pack warm clothes even in summer. No facilities or water sources. Best visibility is typically in the morning before afternoon clouds roll in.
