Camping La Junta Parque Nacional Conguillio
This established campground sits at 1,100 meters elevation in old-growth Araucaria forests within Parque Nacional Conguillio. Sixty sites spread through monkey puzzle groves with fire rings, picnic tables, and clean toilets. The Sierra Nevada volcanic range dominates the skyline, with Llaima’s active crater visible on clear days. Sites fill during Chilean summer holidays but stay quiet March through November.
Access via Ruta 181 from Temuco, then 45 kilometers of paved park road. The final approach winds through volcanic ash fields and araucaria stands that survived Llaima’s 2008 eruption. Gate closes at sunset — late arrivals camp at the overflow area near the entrance station.
