This simple campground sits on the edge of Salar de Atacama, about 15km south of San Pedro de Atacama. Basic sites with fire rings and shared bathroom facilities, no hookups. Gets busy during peak season (June-August) when the flamingo viewing is prime. The real draw is rolling out of your sleeping bag to watch sunrise paint the salt flats pink while flamingos feed in the distant lagoons.
Access via paved road from San Pedro, then 2km on gravel. Elevation around 2,300m means chilly nights year-round. Water available but bring extra for high-altitude camping. Reserve ahead during winter months when Chilean and Argentine tourists flood the area.
