Reykjadalur Hot Spring River
A flowing river heated by geothermal springs creates a natural bathing experience in this accessible valley southeast of Reykjavík. The water temperature varies from lukewarm to quite hot depending on where you position yourself in the stream. Changing areas are basic wooden structures, and the site gets crowded during summer weekends with tour groups.
The trailhead sits at the end of Road 435 near Hveragerði. The 3.5km hiking trail involves some elevation gain and wooden boardwalks over muddy sections. Weather can change quickly, so bring layers. No camping allowed in the immediate area, but several established campgrounds operate in nearby Hveragerði.
