Landmannalaugar Highland Campground
Set in a volcanic valley where rainbow-colored peaks meet steaming geothermal vents, this is Iceland’s most famous highland camp. Basic facilities include toilets, shelter, and the legendary hot springs for soaking trail-weary bones. The mountain hut sells basic supplies and hot meals during summer season.
Access via F208 requires 4WD for river crossings and rough volcanic terrain. Camp fills up fast July through August – arrive early or late in the day. Springs stay hot year-round, but road access typically limited to June-September depending on conditions.
