Ohiopyle State Park Falls Overlook

Point of Interest

The centerpiece of Ohiopyle State Park, these falls drop 20 feet through a narrow sandstone gorge where the Youghiogheny River cuts through Laurel Ridge. A short paved walk from the parking area leads to multiple viewing platforms overlooking the churning whitewater and the historic village below. The gorge creates a natural amphitheater effect with mist rising from the falls even in modest flow conditions.

Peak flow is during spring snowmelt when the Class V rapids below the falls become genuinely intimidating to watch. The overlook connects to the Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail system. Parking can fill on summer weekends when both whitewater rafters and trail users converge. The village has food and basic supplies.
