Tahoe National Forest Prosser Creek Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

A series of pull-offs and clearings along Prosser Creek Road offer free dispersed camping just minutes from Truckee. Sites scatter along the creek with some offering direct water access for dogs and gear washing. Most spots accommodate rigs up to 30 feet on relatively level ground with fire rings left by previous campers. The area stays busy on summer weekends but empties out midweek.

Access via Prosser Dam Road off Highway 89, then follow the creek upstream on Forest Service roads. Road conditions vary – passenger cars can reach the first sites, but high-clearance vehicles open up better spots further back. Popular with locals who know to arrive early Friday for weekend spots.
