Monongahela National Forest Middle Mountain Dispersed Area
Perched at 3,800 feet on Middle Mountain, this dispersed area offers some of the best views in the Monongahela without the crowds of established campgrounds. Six to eight sites spread along the ridgeline, most with partial views east into the Cranberry Wilderness. The area sits in a mixed forest of cherry and maple with scattered clearings perfect for larger rigs. Fire rings present but scarred from heavy use — practice low-impact camping.
Accessed via Forest Road 86 from the Highland Scenic Highway, then 4 miles on FR 86A. The final 2 miles require 4WD during wet conditions as the clay surface becomes greasy. Elevation means cooler temps and frequent fog. Water available 1.5 miles down the mountain at Williams River.
