Laurel Hill State Forest Pine Flats Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

A cluster of natural clearings tucked into mature pine stands along an old fire access road, Pine Flats offers genuine solitude about 8 miles from the main state forest road. The sites are naturally level from decades of fire crew use, with room for 4-5 rigs spread across a quarter-mile stretch. Established fire rings dot the area, and during spring snowmelt, a seasonal creek runs behind the main camping zone.

Access requires navigating unmarked fire roads — GPS essential as forest service signs are minimal. The last 2 miles turn rough with washouts after heavy rains. Spring through fall is prime, but winter access depends on snow levels and road conditions.
