Sand Flats Recreation Area Dispersed Sites
Scattered across the slickrock benches east of Moab, Sand Flats offers dozens of primitive camping spots with panoramic views of red rock country. Sites range from pull-offs right off the main road to tucked-away spots requiring short hikes. Most accommodate any size rig, though the best spots with privacy go to those willing to walk a bit. Fire restrictions typically April through October.
Access via Sand Flats Road from downtown Moab — paved for the first few miles, then maintained dirt. Gets busy during peak seasons (March-May, September-October) but there’s usually something available. No amenities whatsoever, so come prepared. Popular with mountain bikers hitting the Slickrock Trail.
