Natural Bridges National Monument Sipapu Bridge
Sipapu Bridge spans 268 feet across White Canyon, making it one of the largest natural bridges in the world. The Ancestral Puebloan name means ‘place of emergence’ — fitting for this cathedral-like arch carved from Cedar Mesa sandstone by millennia of flash floods. From the rim viewpoint, the bridge frames distant Navajo Mountain while ravens soar through the opening below.
The 1.2-mile round-trip trail to the base involves steep switchbacks and some scrambling over slickrock ledges. The 8.6-mile scenic drive connecting all three bridges handles any vehicle but watch for deer at dawn and dusk. Winter brings occasional snow that can make the trail icy. This is one of the quieter national monuments — you might have the place mostly to yourself.
