Carhenge Automobile Sculpture
Thirty-nine vintage automobiles arranged in the same proportions as England’s Stonehenge rise from a wheat field outside Alliance. Built by artist Jim Reinders in 1987 as a memorial to his father, the cars are painted gray and positioned to align with the summer and winter solstices. The installation sits on a gravel lot with basic facilities and draws a steady stream of road-trippers year-round.
Access is via paved county roads with clear signage from US-385. The site includes additional car sculptures, restrooms, and a small gift shop. Best light for photography is early morning or late afternoon when the plains wind isn’t howling.
