Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza Camping Laguna Verde
Laguna Verde sits in the heart of Chingaza’s páramo ecosystem at 3,400 meters elevation, where the thin air carries the silence of one of Colombia’s most pristine wilderness areas. The designated camping area overlooks the emerald lake with basic facilities including pit toilets and a covered cooking shelter. Temperatures drop to near-freezing at night year-round, and the páramo weather can shift from brilliant sun to driving rain in minutes. Condors and spectacled bears roam the area — food storage is strictly enforced.
Access requires a 4WD vehicle and park permits arranged in advance through the park office in La Calera. The final 8 kilometers are rough dirt track through cloud forest before emerging onto the páramo. Camp only in designated areas — the fragile ecosystem takes decades to recover from trampling.
