Parque Nacional Natural Puracé Camping Pilimbalá
Pilimbalá sits in a cloud forest clearing at 10,500 feet, surrounded by frailejones and volcanic peaks. The campground has basic facilities including pit toilets and a covered cooking area, but no potable water — you’ll need to treat stream water or bring your own. Nights drop below freezing year-round, and afternoon fog rolls in like clockwork.
Access via a rough 8km dirt road from the park entrance. The road deteriorates in rainy season (April-November), requiring high clearance. Thermal springs are a 2km hike from camp. Book ahead through the park office in Popayán — they limit camping to minimize impact on the páramo ecosystem.
