Lough Bray Upper Wild Camping
Lough Bray Upper sits in a glacial corrie high in the Wicklow Mountains, reached by a rough track that branches off the Military Road. Several flat grassy areas around the lake provide wild camping spots with stunning views down the valley toward the coast. The lake itself is crystal clear and swimmable, though cold year-round. Stone ruins of old settlements dot the landscape.
Track requires high-clearance vehicle and gets boggy in wet weather — 4WD recommended after rain. No facilities whatsoever, pack everything in and out. Weather changes rapidly at this elevation, and the area can be shrouded in mist for days. Leave No Trace principles essential in this fragile mountain environment.
