Wicklow Gap Dispersed Camping
Scattered informal camping areas along the Wicklow Gap (R756) between the Sally Gap and Glenmalure Valley. Park in the old quarry pull-offs or grass verges where the road widens — about 6-8 spots total with room for maybe 20 vehicles on busy weekends. Zero facilities, pack everything out. Views stretch across peat bogs toward Lugnaquilla and the eastern ranges.
Access is via narrow mountain roads that can ice over in winter. Popular with Dublin weekend warriors, so arrive Friday if you want the better spots. No water sources nearby — bring everything you need. The area sees occasional garda patrols but wild camping is generally tolerated if you’re discrete and clean.
