Hocking River Swimming Hole Near Logan
A series of natural pools carved into sandstone bedrock where the Hocking River meanders through mixed forest about 10 miles southeast of Logan. The water runs clear and cool year-round, with depths ranging from knee-deep riffles to chest-deep pools perfect for a post-trail soak. Sandstone ledges provide natural seating and easy entry points. Local families have been using this spot for generations, but it rarely gets crowded except on hot summer weekends.
Park along the gravel pull-off where Township Road 56 crosses the river—look for the worn path down to the water. Water levels vary with rainfall, but the main pools hold water even during dry spells. No facilities, so pack out everything you bring in. The spot is about 15 minutes from several Hocking Hills trailheads.
