Old Man’s Cave Gorge Trailhead
Old Man’s Cave serves as the main trailhead for Hocking Hills State Park’s signature sandstone gorge system, featuring a large paved parking area and visitor center. While the main trail is a family-friendly paved path to the cave and falls, this trailhead also provides access to backcountry connectors leading into Hocking State Forest’s extensive bridle trail network — prime territory for high-clearance exploration.
The parking area fills completely on summer weekends and fall foliage season, arriving early morning or late afternoon improves your chances. From here, experienced overlanders can pick up forest service roads that connect to more remote camping areas and technical trail segments deeper in the state forest system.
