Conkle’s Hollow Nature Preserve Trailhead
Conkle’s Hollow cuts a narrow gorge through Blackhand sandstone, creating 200-foot vertical walls that shelter rare plants and ferns. The rim trail offers cliff-top views while the gorge trail follows the creek bed through the canyon floor. Paved parking area accommodates 40+ vehicles including larger rigs. Vault toilets available but no water source.
Access is via a short paved road off Big Pine Road, about 3 miles south of Old Man’s Cave. The rim trail can be icy in winter, but the gorge trail stays accessible year-round. No camping in the preserve, but it’s a quick detour for overlanders running the nearby Hocking Hills State Forest bridle trails.
