Dinosaur National Monument Gates of Lodore Campground
Seventeen sites tucked into cottonwoods along the Green River where it enters the Gates of Lodore canyon. This is ground zero for multi-day raft trips through some of the wildest water in the Colorado River system, but the campground itself is peaceful — just the sound of river current and canyon wrens. Sites are spacious with fire rings and vault toilets, though water comes from hand pumps. Rangers patrol regularly since this is a permit-required launch point for river trips.
The final 13 miles to reach Gates of Lodore are on dirt — not technical, but washboard sections that’ll rattle loose gear. Road can be impassable when wet. Open April through October, though early and late season can be cold. Reserve ahead during peak rafting season (May-September) or you’ll find yourself turned away at the gate.
