Zackenberg Research Station to Daneborg Coastal Route

Arctic wilderness navigation at its most remote

Expert

This supply route connects Denmark’s premier Arctic research station with the military outpost at Daneborg, following traditional Inuit hunting paths across the barren Northeast Greenland National Park. The track crosses the Zackenberg River multiple times before climbing onto the coastal plateau, where massive musk oxen herds graze among scattered research equipment cairns. Past the Wollaston Foreland checkpoint, drivers navigate by GPS alone across trackless tundra where polar bear encounters are common.

Expert-level navigation required — this isn’t a trail, it’s a bearing across wilderness. Modified Arctic vehicles only, with redundant heating systems, emergency shelter, and satellite communication mandatory. Best attempted July-August when rivers are lowest, though even then expect axle-deep crossings. No permits needed but notify Daneborg military base of transit plans. What you get: absolute solitude in Earth’s most pristine wilderness and stories that’ll outlast your rig.
