Disko Island Basalt Formation Overlook
This elevated overlook provides panoramic views of Disko Island’s distinctive basalt plateau formations and the ice-filled waters of Baffin Bay. The viewpoint sits atop ancient volcanic flows that created the island’s characteristic stepped terrain. Interpretive markers explain the geological significance of these Paleocene formations. Clear days offer views across to the Greenland mainland and drifting icebergs.
Reached via 3.2 kilometers of rough track branching from the Qullissat heritage road. Surface becomes rocky and loose in sections but manageable for high-clearance vehicles. Weather can change rapidly with fog rolling in from the bay. Best lighting for photography occurs during the extended summer daylight hours.
