Parque Nacional Constitución de 1857 Pine Forest Campground
This national park sits at 4,200 feet in the Sierra de Juárez, offering a rare taste of pine forest in Baja California Norte. The established campground has basic facilities—pit toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables scattered among the pines. Sites accommodate rigs up to 30 feet, though the access road gets rough in spots. Summer temperatures drop 20-30 degrees cooler than the coast, making it popular with locals escaping Mexicali’s furnace heat.
The 25-mile dirt access road from Highway 3 is rocky but manageable for high-clearance vehicles. Winter brings occasional snow and camp closures. Water is not available—pack everything in. The park ranger collects modest fees and can point you toward hiking trails that lead to granite peaks with views across northern Baja.
