Alabama Hills BLM Recreation Area
The Alabama Hills spread across 30,000 acres of rounded granite boulders and arches with the Sierra Nevada towering directly above. This is one of the West’s most photogenic dispersed camping areas, with hundreds of established sites tucked between the rocks. The contrast between the dark volcanic Alabama Hills and the snow-capped Sierra peaks creates some of the most dramatic sunrise and sunset backdrops you’ll find anywhere. Sites range from pull-throughs for big rigs to intimate spots that require high-clearance to access.
Access via Movie Flat Road and Tuttle Creek Road from Lone Pine. Most sites are accessible to any vehicle, though the best spots require navigating tight turns around boulders. Popular with photographers and rock climbers, so expect company during peak seasons and weekends. Fire restrictions often in effect during summer months.
