Inyo National Forest Whitney Portal Road Dispersed Sites
Scattered sites along Whitney Portal Road between the Alabama Hills and Whitney Portal proper, tucked among granite boulders at 6,000-8,000 feet elevation. Most spots accommodate one or two rigs with natural windbreaks from the rocks. Popular with climbers and hikers accessing Mount Whitney, so expect competition during peak season (May-October). Fire restrictions typically in effect during summer months.
Access via paved Whitney Portal Road from Lone Pine, then rough dirt spurs leading to individual sites. Sites become more sparse and challenging to access as elevation increases. Best options are between miles 8-12 from town. Water available at Whitney Portal but not at individual sites.
