Indian Creek Corridor — Highway 211 BLM Dispersed Camping

Dispersed Camping

Highway 211 is the paved road to the Needles District. Before it reaches the park, it runs through the Indian Creek corridor, a canyon of towering Wingate cliffs with cottonwoods along the creek. BLM land here carries a mix of designated and informal pullout camp areas. Climbers camp here all spring and fall, so expect neighbors. In shoulder season, camping is first-come, first-served and free. It’s a good basecamp when the Squaw Flat sites in the park are booked and you don’t want to burn a permit on a night before running Elephant Hill. Bring your own water, pack out everything, and use a toilet system, because there are no services.

Camping rules here have tightened over the years as use has grown. Stick to established, disturbed sites, and check with the BLM Monticello Field Office or the BLM Utah website for current rules, any designated-site requirements, and fire restrictions before you roll in. The pavement is good and the side spurs are mostly dirt that’s easy in dry weather. Flash flood risk is real in washes and along the creek bottom. Spring and fall are prime, and summers run hot with little shade.

Free red-rock camping on the road to the Needles.
