Hidden in the Turtle Mountains near the Canadian border, this 1,551-acre park surrounds Lake Metigoshe with dense aspen and oak forests — a stark contrast to the surrounding prairie. The campground has 86 sites, most with electric hookups, scattered through the woods. Summer brings heavy use from Canadian visitors, but spring and fall are peaceful.
The park sits about 10 miles north of Bottineau on a paved road. It’s the northernmost state park in North Dakota and offers a completely different landscape from the badlands country to the west. The lake provides decent fishing, and hiking trails wind through surprisingly thick forest.
