Cottonwood Campground sits in mature cottonwood stands along the Little Missouri River bottomland, offering the most developed camping in Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s South Unit. The 76 sites range from basic tent spots to RV-friendly pads with electrical hookups, most shaded by the namesake trees. Expect crowds during peak summer months and fall color season. Campground fills regularly May through September, especially weekends. Water spigots scattered throughout, modern restrooms with flush toilets, and a camp store for basics.
Book ahead through Recreation.gov — same-day availability rare during busy season. Road into campground is paved and suitable for any RV. Sites 1-50 have electrical hookups. Generator hours enforced. Excellent base camp for exploring the park’s scenic loop drive and backcountry hiking trails.
