Monitor Valley stretches 50 miles north-south between the Toquima and Monitor mountain ranges, offering endless dispersed camping opportunities along its gravel spine road. This is proper Nevada basin-and-range country — vast sagebrush flats punctuated by snow-capped peaks and scattered mining ruins. Sites are pull-offs anywhere along the valley floor, most with 360-degree views and zero neighbors within miles.
The main valley road is graded gravel suitable for any vehicle, though washboard can develop after storms. No services exist for 80+ miles in any direction, making this true wilderness camping. Water sources are seasonal springs only — come self-sufficient. The northern end connects to Austin via SR-376, while the southern terminus links to US-6 east of Tonopah.
