Battle Pass marks the Continental Divide between the Sierra Madre and Medicine Bow ranges, named for a Ute and Arapaho skirmish that happened here in 1841. The pass sits at nearly 10,000 feet with expansive views in all directions — you can see the Snowy Range to the north and the Colorado Rockies stretching south. There’s a small parking area and interpretive signs about the area’s history.
Highway 70 over the pass is paved but can be rough with frost heaves. Snow closes it from November through May most years. The exposed location means weather changes fast — afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer. No services or facilities, just the views and the history.
