This 15-mile scenic route follows the Snake River through a deep basalt canyon where hundreds of underground springs emerge directly from the cliff faces, creating waterfalls that plunge 200 feet to the river below. The springs discharge an estimated 5,000 cubic feet per second of crystal-clear water, fed by the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer. Niagara Springs and Thousand Springs are the most accessible and dramatic viewpoints, with pull-offs allowing overlanders to witness this geological phenomenon up close.
The route runs along US-30 between Buhl and Hagerman, entirely paved with multiple scenic overlooks and interpretive sites. Spring flow is consistent year-round but most dramatic during high water periods in late spring. Several commercial fish farms utilize the constant 58-degree spring water, adding an agricultural element to the natural spectacle.
